When people ask me what I do, I say “I am a Men’s Life Coach.” They then usually say something like, “That’s interesting, what exactly is that?”
I help men create the lives they want to be living. I am a Men’s Life Coach. “Why would I need a life coach to create the life I want?” is the question that usually comes next.
It’s a fair question. Maybe you have the same question as well. How would you answer this: 1) Are you living all areas of your life like you want, and if not, 2) are you making measurable progress creating the life you want to be living in those areas? Depending on how you answer, those two questions may determine if a Life Coach is right for you.
If you are like me there can be a number of different things you want in life. Everyone is different in his or her exact wants, yet the underlying challenges to get what you want in life are often similar. It is for these reasons that a Life Coach can be the difference between making forward progress in what you want, or remaining stagnant, and in the worst case, even settling for something that is grossly sub-par for what you are truly capable of doing or having. Can you relate?
Regardless of what specific thing it is you want, these seven challenges seem to be a common struggle for most people, and a Life Coach can help you successfully navigate beyond them.
1. Feel Lost
“What am I doing?” is often the phrase you hear in your head when you simply don’t know what to do. It may be an issue in your relationships, health, career, or finances. A Life Coach helps you find clarity in what you are doing now, helps you create a plan to go where you want to be, and helps you take action to get there.
By asking the appropriate questions, the Life Coach helps you discover the right answers for you. The answers have always been inside you, the Life Coach merely helps you organize “the room” so you can see what’s there, what’s needed, and decide what’s the best course of action..
2. Self-Doubt
Do you believe you are your own worst critic? My professional experience confirms this is true of many people. A Life Coach helps you identify your current skills and talents, identify what is actually needed for the situation, and helps you figure out how to have all the resources and tools you need to get that thing you want. Self-doubt is replaced with confidence based on being prepared with what you need.
3. Procrastination
Why do you procrastinate? Most people will procrastinate when they feel overwhelmed with the task at hand. I have found not having a clear path of what is needed to get the job done can add to this sense of overwhelm. Specific, achievable “next smallest” steps will change overwhelm into “over it”. A Life Coach helps you break larger tasks into the next smallest step needed to keep you on track and moving forward.
4. No Time
People often believe they are too busy and have no time to meet with a Life Coach. A Life Coach helps this very same person organize, prioritize, and realize more available time in a day, week, or month than a person believed was possible. If you don’t have time to invest in yourself so you can maximize your available time to get what you want, then what are you really doing except wasting time. A Life Coach helps you control your time and maximize your effectiveness.
5. Fear
Fear can be paralyzing. A Life Coach helps you through your fear and false beliefs. Fear can freeze a person in his tracks. False beliefs are the fuel for fear. A Life Coach helps you reframe false beliefs and eliminate or reduce fear so you move forward.
6. Stressed Out
Often times stress in life can sabotage our best efforts. A Life Coach helps you discover methods and techniques that work for you to reduce and eliminate stress. By helping you discover your place of reset and relaxation, you have more physical and mental energy to face the tasks before you and complete them.
7. Lose Focus
We all can forget about things. When life is busy and we are active doing many things, sometimes focus is lost on the important thing. The action that will help you get what you want if you continue to do it gets skipped because of a present situation.
A Life Coach helps you stay focused, to not forget what is important so you achieve your goals. Think of it like a voice outside your head that doesn’t let the voice inside your head forget to keep doing what is needed for you to get what you want. Your Life Coach is an accountability partner who is on your side, looking out for your best interests.
So when I am asked what I do, the real answer is that I facilitate transformational change to help a person manifest his brilliance and be magnificent in all areas of his life. For me, this is why I have my own Life Coach. My hope is that you are able to be magnificent in all areas of your life. How might a Life Coach help you?
