Today’s talk is about motivation—and more importantly, how to stay on track even when you’re not feeling it. If you’re like me, there are days when motivation is sky-high, and then there are days where it’s just… not there. And that’s totally normal. But the problem is, if we only rely on motivation to keep moving forward and hitting our goals, we’ll end up stuck when it fades.
Motivation is like a mood—it comes and goes. Some days you’re pumped, other days you’re just going through the motions. The first thing I want you to get out of your head is the idea that you’ll always be motivated. That’s a fallacy. Motivation fluctuates, just like your energy or your mood. But that doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with your goals or what you’re working towards. It’s just how life works. What is reliable is discipline. That’s the real key to progress—showing up, even when you don’t feel like it. Discipline is like a muscle—the more you use it, the stronger it gets. Every time you take action, even when you’re not feeling motivated, you’re building that discipline muscle.
And here’s the cool part—action can actually boost your motivation. Ever notice how once you get started on something, even if you weren’t feeling it at first, you start to feel better? That’s because taking action releases those feel-good chemicals in your brain, and that can give you a motivational kick to keep going. So, here’s what to remember:
- Motivation isn’t constant – Don’t rely on it.
- Discipline and consistency – That’s your foundation. Keep showing up.
- Take action – Even small steps. Action leads to more motivation.
Now, how do you stay consistent when you’re not motivated? First, you need to know your why. Why are you working towards this goal? Whether it’s for your health, your family, or your career, find the reason that drives you. When you’re clear on your why, it helps push you forward, even on the tough days.
Next, break it down. What’s the smallest, most manageable step you can take right now? Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to do too much at once. Focus on one step at a time, no matter how small.
So, here’s the game plan: Know your why, break it down into small, manageable steps, and stay disciplined and consistent. Even if motivation isn’t there today, you’ll keep moving forward, and before you know it, that motivation will catch up to you. Alright, men, I hope that helps you take on whatever’s in front of you today. And remember—discipline, consistency, and action are your tools. I’m Todd with Empowered Men Coaching. Talk to you soon. Ciao!
