This is something that comes up a lot — finding balance between work, your purpose, and your personal life. These are the key areas where things can get out of sync, and when they do, that’s usually when we start feeling pain, pressure, or dissatisfaction. So let’s break it down.
First up, let’s talk about purpose. Purpose is huge, guys. If you’ve got a clear vision of who you are, what you stand for, and what you want to achieve, you can measure how well your work, your personal life, and where you spend your time align with that vision. That’s where alignment starts. So, take some time to reflect. Who are you? What values do you hold? What kind of world do you want to help create? And what unique gifts do you have to move your life in that direction? That’s what living with purpose looks like.
Next, let’s talk about work. Work is interesting because it can easily dominate our time if we let it. It can start to control us instead of us controlling it. So here’s what I suggest: set clear start and stop times for your work. If you’ve got the flexibility, use it to create those boundaries. If you don’t have that flexibility, maybe it’s time to ask yourself if you’re in the right job or role. Could the role change to help you get better balance?
Also, be mindful of how you spend your time at work. Are you caught up in busywork, or are you focusing on high-impact tasks? At the end of the day, high-impact work is what’s going to help you grow and move forward. So, identify what those tasks are, and figure out if there’s a gap between what you’re doing and what really matters. Lastly, let’s hit on personal time. This is one area that’s super easy to neglect or push aside, but you can’t afford to do that. One way to make sure you don’t skip out on your personal life is to plan ahead. Put it on the calendar! Block off time for yourself and for the people you care about—whether it’s date nights, family dinners, or activities with your kids. Lock it in so you’re not tempted to schedule over it or forget about it.
So when we talk about balance between work, purpose, and personal time, it’s not about making everything equal—it’s about making everything meaningful. Each area needs to have impact and significance in your life. Give this some thought, reflect on it, and see where you might need to make adjustments. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m happy to help however I can. Remember, balance is one of the keys to living a happy and fulfilled life. And look, I’m in the same boat as you guys. I struggle with it too. But right now, I’m working remotely while visiting some friends, and look at the view I get to enjoy every day. I’m staying connected with people I care about, setting limits around my work, and living in alignment with my purpose. My purpose is to help men like you—guys who are watching this video, my clients, all of you—to walk through life as better men and create a better world. Alright, that’s it for today. Have a great day, men. I’m Todd with Empowered Men Coaching. Ciao.
